New HDM (Hydramec) 360° Rotation

INTRODUCTION

In modern forestry handling, attachment rotation makes all the difference. The new HDM Hydramec 360° rotation was developed to improve the operational stability of the felling shear and make every maneuver more precise, even in difficult working conditions.

WHAT THE HDM ROTATION IS AND HOW IT WORKS

The HDM rotation is the system that allows the felling shear to rotate relative to the boom of the operating machine.

It consists of:
a pivoting adapter mounted on the excavator boom
a housing fixed to the adapter
a gear system inside the housing connected to the shear

The hydraulic actuators, positioned below the rotation axis, set a gear set in motion that transmits movement to the shear. The result is a continuous 360° rotation, with smoother and more precise control compared to traditional slewing rings.

INNOVATION AND SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE

The heart of the system is a set of parallel-axis spur gears, chosen for their efficiency in power transmission. The teeth mesh precisely, reducing friction and wear.

Main technical features:
continuous 360° rotation for maximum operational flexibility
optimized balancing that reduces attachment drift
high torque thanks to the multi-stage reduction system
rotation speed around 3 rpm, higher than classic slewing rings

The load remains centered, which reduces torsional stress on the structures, increasing safety and the service life of the components.

HYDRAULIC TECHNOLOGY AND TRIBOLOGICAL SYSTEM

The HDM rotation uses two latest-generation hydraulic motors, opposed and flanged to overcenter valves. This configuration ensures synchronized and controlled movement, even in the event of load peaks.

Bearings and bushings are sized to withstand continuous work in forestry environments, while grease lubrication reduces noise and friction. The heterogeneous tribological system ensures long-term efficiency and smooth operation in various operating conditions.

SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE

Safety during the felling phase remains central. Once the tree is cut, it must be laid on the ground using the bucket’s opening and closing movement, following the correct operating procedures.

The gearbox is designed to facilitate inspections: the removable cover makes internal checks and any scheduled maintenance operations easier, reducing machine downtime.

CONCLUSION

The HDM Hydramec 360° rotation represents a step forward in rotation technology applied to the forestry sector. It combines control, power, safety, and ease of maintenance in a single system, designed for those who work daily with felling shears and need constant reliability and precision.
